Desert Springs Hospital’s Wound Care Center was awarded the Robert A. Warriner III, M.D., Center of Excellence Award for its expertise in healing chronic wounds. The Center was awarded this prestigious honor by Healogics, the nation's largest provider of advanced wound care services.
The Center earned a patient satisfaction rating of 93 percent and a healing rate of 93 percent in less than 24 median days to heal, for two consecutive years. The wound care team treated more than 380 patients in 2018, with a daily mission to heal wounds, prevent amputations and improve patients’ quality of life.
“This award exemplifies our wound care team’s commitment to helping our patients heal, which in turn improves their quality of life,” said Ryan Jensen, CEO/Managing Director of Desert Springs Hospital. “Many of our patients already have wound issues when they receive hospital care for cardiac issues, diabetes or other medical conditions, and we are able to begin treatment during their hospital stay, and then provide them the opportunity to continue receiving care in our outpatient center. It’s very validating to see the positive outcomes of the care we provide.”
“It is very rewarding to see how excited our patients are after we’ve healed their wound,” said Thomas J. Lee, MD, Medical Director of Desert Springs Hospital’s Wound Care Center. “I’m proud to be working with a team that is dedicated to quality patient care.”
People at greatest risk for developing chronic wounds include those who have chronic medical conditions or vascular disease, a weak immune system, a previous history of ulcers or long periods of bed rest, unhealthy lifestyle habits such as smoking, or a poor diet and hygiene, and those who don’t move very much. Age can also be a factor in chronic wounds.
Desert Springs Hospital’s Wound Care Center is a member of the Healogics network of nearly 700 Wound Care Centers® that provide access to benchmarking data and proven experience treating approximately 2.5 million chronic wounds. The Center offers highly specialized wound care to patients suffering from diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, infections and other chronic wounds which have not healed in a reasonable amount of time. Leading edge treatments at the Center include negative pressure wound therapy, bio-engineered tissues, biosynthetic dressings and growth factor therapies. The Center also offers hyperbaric oxygen therapy, which works by surrounding the patient with 100 percent oxygen to help progress the healing of the wound.
