Staying Safe During Your Stay
Patient Safety
Leaving the Unit
It is important to stay in your room until your doctor has made rounds and treatments have been completed. Your physician or nurse will tell you if you have walking privileges. An escort may be necessary even if you do have walking privileges. Please notify your nurse upon leaving and returning to the unit. Always ask for assistance when you need to get out of bed.
Security
Desert Springs Hospital Medical Center has security officers on duty 24 hours a day for your protection. In the event you need the assistance of security, dial "0" and the operator will contact an officer.
Confidentiality
Desert Springs Hospital Medical Center respects your right to privacy while you are receiving medical care and follows a strict policy of confidentiality. No information regarding your medical condition or treatment may be released to anyone without your permission. If you are contacted by anyone in the news media concerning your hospital stay or condition, please contact your nurse.
Fire Drills
For your protection, the hospital regularly conducts fire and disaster drills. If a drill occurs during your hospital stay, please remain in your room and do not become alarmed. Our staff is trained in fire safety and emergency management.
Medications
All medications you take while a patient at Desert Springs Hospital have been prescribed by your physician, are dispensed by the hospital pharmacy and administered by a trained professional. Patients are not permitted to administer their own medications or to keep personal medications, unless specifically documented by their physician.
Personal Belongings
All valuables, including personal items, are to be returned home with a family member. Desert Springs Hospital is not responsible for lost medications, personal items or valuables (including glasses, dentures and hearing aides). If you choose to keep your valuables here, an inventory will be taken and your items will be kept in a safe with the Security Department. Patients are asked not to bring personal electrical appliances into the hospital because, although most are safe for home use, they may not be compatible with the hospital environment. Before leaving, please collect all of your personal belongings, double-checking drawers and closets. If any of your belongings are missing, please notify your nurse, who will contact Security.
Non-Smoking Policy
To comply with Nevada State Law, we are a non-smoking facility. Patients are not allowed to leave their unit to smoke.
